Cricket Kenya award contracts to players

After settling the on going crisis, Cricket Kenya has agreed to hand a one-year contract to 14 players.

The players have accepted and signed the deal which runs up till May 31, 2011. The development has come after a two month dispute which put Kenyan cricket in serious jeopardy.

The crisis has already cost Kenyan cricket dearly with England tour being scrapped during mid June this year. However, as the African nation prepares to host the Intercontinental Cup leader Afghanistan in October for a ODI tournament, the officials and players have held a series of meetings to resolve the issues.

Cricket Kenya has expressed satisfaction at the outcome of the effort.

CK Chief Executive Tom Sears said on Monday, "It is fair to say some good has come out of the initial dispute in the fact that after a series of meetings and presentations the players now have a better understanding of Cricket Kenya's plan for the future, the constraints we as an organisation face and their responsibilities as members of the national squad.

"All the players have now agreed to new contracts with our original budget for the year which was crucial," he added.
