Nokia Acquires Motally, Private U.S. Company

It looks like Intel is not the only company that has decided to make acquisitions this week. It turned out that Nokia is going to buy Motally. It is a private U.S. company that majors in tracking as well as reporting usage statistics on mobile applications and websites.

The company is going to use tools of Motally for cross-platform application. But it was also confirmed by Nokia that Motally’s tools will remain serving the existing customer base of the company. Currently, Motally’s tools can be used by users of Apple’s iPhone and iPad, RIM’s Blackberry devices as well as Android-based smartphones.

Analytics tools of Motally can be used for identifying carrier or user locations. But Nokia hopes to make this process easier for publishers as well as developers.

Nowadays third-party tools start playing an important role on the mobile application developer ecosystem. Furthermore, vendors of such tools prioritize Android-based smatphones as well as the iPhone over Symbian. When talking about analytics, one can say that Nokia has taken a firm hold of things by purchasing Motally.
Nokia does not disclose a sum of money it is spending for Motally, but it is expected that the transaction will be closed before the end of the third quarter.
