The Scandals, the Outfits, the Rivalries – Get Up to Speed on the VMAs

The Scandals, the Outfits, the Rivalries – Get Up to Speed on the VMAs

Kanye West and Taylor Swift

Put the queen of snark Chelsea Handler in the same room with Kanye West, Eminem and the cast Jersey Shore and there's bound to be some fireworks.

That's what you can expect at the always unpredictable MTV Video Music Awards, which air Sunday night, with Handler hosting.

The most-talked-about honoree of the night may be Lady Gaga: The Grammy-winning singer, 24, scored 13 nominations, the most ever received by any artist in a single year.

And, of course, look out for Russell Brand to show up and pull off any number of antics with – or without – the help of his fiancée Katy Perry, who's a presenter this year.

The elephant in the room will be Kanye West, who is performing at the show. The big question is, of course: Will he behave? Last year, West cut off Taylor Swift's acceptance speech, grabbed her microphone and announced that fellow nominee Beyoncé had "one of the greatest videos of all time."

West later apologized to Swift, and now says he wants to make it up to her – with a new song he wrote for her. And he may have a chance to apologize in person: Swift is expected to perform at the ceremony.

Meanwhile, one can only hope Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi doesn’t annoy everyone within earshot at L.A.'s Nokia Theater, though that's about as likely as "The Situation" not flashing his abs.
