Barely 24 hours after the new feature was announced by Google, 1 million calls were already placed using the voice call feature added to the chat system features of Gmail. The calls are free for users based in the United States and Canada although decent rates are also available for International callers.
However, the 1 million calls reported may have been on a trial basis by the Gmail users situated in the U.S. and Canada. And as long as this new Google service add-on remains free the number of users who will make use of the said system is expected to flourish.
The new Gmail voice call feature is expected to remain free up to the end of the year and there is no word if the said service would expand to the international market.
